A little about Gary
Life's a journey. Never give up on your dreams.
A little about Gary Grant Chamberlain:
Since the age of 14 Gary has been writing his own original music, performing as lead vocalist and playing music. Gary was 14 years old when he put on a concert for student staff faculty at Hamilton Southeastern Junior High School. After playing music at local events between 8th and 9th grade, Gary started gaining a lot of attention. He was involved in Athletics. Football, basketball, cross country, wrestling, etc. Gary was selected by sportscaster Dave Calabro for Dave's Team, a local news segment which aired on WHTR Channel 13, the largest news outlet in the Indianapolis area and state of Indiana. Gary was also featured on the Fox 59 news local entertainer segment. They aired a spot of Gary singing the national anthem at one of his high school football games and showcased how Gary’s original music was played over the PA system during passing periods at his high school, Hamilton Southeastern High School.

After appearing in Teen Country Magazine, Gary’s career really took off and he started touring and opening for national recording artists. Gary made the tough decision to turn in his football pads and hang up his basketball sneakers after his Freshmen year of High School. He went on to finish High School on the road. After a few years of touring and sharing the stage with award winning artists, songwriters and producers to include but not limited to: Garth Brooks, Vince Gill, Mark Chesnutt, Tracy Lawrence, The Charlie Daniel’s Band, Little Texas, Deborah Allen, Aaron Tippin, The Nitty Gritty Dirt Band, Martina McBride, Colin Raye, Lady Antebellum, Ronnie Milsap, Rob Helms, Jason Michael Carroll, Jeff Barry, Mark Gray, Larry Crain, Paul Worley, Jane Bach, and more, he decided to take a short break from the road when he turned 18 so he could contemplate continuing his professional music career on his own and out from under his parents’ wing. Gary is a proud Army Veteran and father of 4 children for the past 25 years.

In 2006, while drilling at Camp Atterbury with his unit, his First Sergeant urgently pulled him out of duty that day when Gary’s home caught on fire. Gary was devastated by the tragic loss of his 2 year old son, Garison Grant Chamberlain. It was the first loss of life the town had suffered due to a fire in 50 years and the entire community was deeply saddened. Through music, Gary honors his son by being the voice his son never had a chance to have. When listening to Gary's music, you're listening to "Little Gary".
Gary later went on to work in public service and worked as a police officer for the Marion County Sheriffs’ Dept. and the Windfall Police Department. Driven by the heartbreak and loss of his little boy, Gary was also driven to work with and teach others the importance of safety and security and he also worked in the private security field as an Operations Manager for a security firm in Carmel, Indiana for 12 years.
Gary attributes his return to the music profession to his daughter, Layla Ruth Chamberlain, who is extremely musically talented in her own right. Gary fondly recollects the day Layla approached him. Gary was playing the guitar one evening after work, and after hearing him play, Layla said to him, “Dad, you just need to do music again.” Gary took his daughter’s advice and hasn’t looked back since.
Gary was honored to be part of the recent Sunset Stories podcast, hosted by Tanya Manley discussing the deep, often unspoken grief that fathers who have lost a child endure. You can listen to this informative and heart-felt discussion with the link below.
